Our client: UK white goods OEM
Background: Our design team developed a smart RF thermostat with temperature adjustment controlled via a sliding ring around the body of the main PCB and touch screen assembly.
Challenge: Slide the control ring over the PCB and fascia plastic without damaging 4 control switches extending out from the PCB while maintaining high volume throughput.
Solution: We employed a semi-automated ring press with a unique and novel approach that grips the plastic ring with 4 symmetrical dual pivoting claws locking the part in place as it travels vertically and as it engages the PCB the claws depress the actuators of the 4 switches, allowing the plastic ring to slide over the switches unharmed when in position.
